CHIEF OF POLICE JOB POSTING

The Village of Hesperia is seeking a Police Chief to manage a full-time department under the supervision of the Village President. The Chief is responsible for the direct supervision of all employed officers. A successful candidate will possess strong leadership and communication skills, have knowledge and experience in labor/management relations, a collaborative management style as well as being fiscally responsible to work within the department’s budget.

The Chief of Police is expected to maintain a positive working relationship with a variety of appointed and elected officials to include the Village Council, Village Staff, community members and the general public. Must be willing to be on call 7 days a week, 24 hours per day and be able to respond to an emergency within 30 minutes.

To qualify, candidates must be MCOLES certified by date of employment; LASO or TAC certified; minimum 7 years of law enforcement service, have an Associate’s degree (Bachelor’s degree preferred) in Criminal Justice; and minimum 2 years of progressive supervisory experience.

DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR 

The Village of Hesperia is taking applications for a full time DPW director. All eligible candidates are required to possess a State of Michigan S-3 Water Systems License; a State of Michigan L-2 Waste Water License; State of Michigan CDL and have supervisory experience of no less than 5 years. Responsibilities shall include but not limited to: overseeing of our water and sewer systems, filing water and sewer reports to the State of Michigan and filing any other miscellaneous reports, overseeing monthly and quarterly water samples, managing DPW staff, light mechanic work, have professional interaction with the village residents and village council, maintaining of public streets, sidewalks and parks. Salaried compensation for this position is negotiable depending upon experience including benefits.
